Why Move To Raleigh, NC?

If Raleigh is on your shortlist of places to relocate to, you're probably searching for why it is a great place to live. I’m here to help you see just how spectacular the city of Raleigh is for people of all ages.

I moved to Raleigh with my husband more than five years ago and we couldn’t be happier with our decision! We’ve found Raleigh to be the right place to call home and I think you will feel the same way.

Moving to another city or state is a big decision, and I understand the research that goes into making that decision. That’s why I created this moving guide –– to help ease the stress of finding your next home base.

5 Reasons To Move To Raleigh, NC

I could go on about the benefits of living in Raleigh, NC forever, but for your sake I will keep it short. There are many reasons to move to Raleigh, but here are my top five!

1. There is a Booming Restaurant Scene

One of the biggest draws for moving to Raleigh is the plethora of dining options and brewery scene. The Triangle area is preparing for a restaurant boom in 2022 on top of the many options already available for locals and visitors alike.

You can find almost any type of food you’re in the mood for in Raleigh. The burgeoning food and craft beer scene is one of our favorite things about living in this area. From handmade pastas and woodfire pizzas to authentic North Carolina BBQ and Southern fried chicken to street tacos and homemade dumplings, Raleigh has it all. Not to mention there are plenty of local craft breweries in the area to try!

2. The “City of Oaks” is Scenic and the Outdoors Are Beautiful

Raleigh is also commonly known as the “City of Oaks” because of its dense oak tree population. You’ll notice, when you land at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), it's abundantly clear how Raleigh got its nickname.

The beautiful oak trees line the streets and fill the parks throughout the city. Walking the Capital Area Greenway System trails in Raleigh is one of my favorite things to do because the trees give the area a relaxing and calm natural setting. You’ll never get tired of the serenity they bring.

3. It’s the Second Largest City in NC

Behind Charlotte, Raleigh (the capital city) is the second largest city in North Carolina which means there are plenty of fun things to do. Downtown Raleigh is a vibrant city that is bursting with entrepreneurs.

It was made the capital of North Carolina in 1792 and since then, it has continued to grow rapidly. According to the most recent U.S. Census data (2019), the population of Raleigh is 464,485. The nice part about living in Raleigh suburbs is that you’re close enough to the city to have ample access to amenities, but also get the small town neighborhood feel.

4. There Are Always a Variety of Things To Do

Living in Raleigh, NC comes with many opportunities to get out and explore the city. There is no shortage of events, festivals, museums, and other fun things to do in this city. It’s home to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, the stunning North Carolina Museum of Art, Marbles Kids Museum, and more.

Nearly every weekend there are public events and festivals going on, especially in the warmer months. Stay entertained year-round with the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival, Triangle Restaurant Week, Brewgaloo, Food Truck Rodeo, and many other events.

5. There Are Excellent Neighborhoods and a Fast-Growing Housing Market

The last reason to move to Raleigh I’ll mention is the healthy housing market and high-quality neighborhoods. Whether you are looking to live in a historic neighborhood, 55+ active adult communities, or family-oriented suburb, Raleigh has some of the best neighborhoods in North Carolina.

Raleigh offers relocation families and local home buyers a range of housing options, from condos in downtown, to townhomes and single family homes. There are lots of considerations depending on your budget and lifestyle. No matter where you live in Raleigh, you will be close to a variety of convenient amenities and outdoor activities.
